Want to taste better results from your home espresso machine? Or maybe you’re interested in what we do behind the bar. No matter what your interest or experience is, this class will teach & reinforce the techniques of properly brewing, serving, & enjoying espresso. From grind to dose to distribution to tamp to brew, we’ll cover what you need to know to pull delicious shots.

COFFEE TASTING • SATURDAY, AUGUST 16, 11AM

Discovering direct relationship coffees and the people  behind them. Where does the coffee come from  and who cultivates it? Travel the globe with us as we explore coffees from the Americas to Africa to the Pacific Rim. We’ll taste and discuss how climate, culture, and the marketplace affect what ends up in your mug. Take home a sample from each major region and refine your taste preference with fresh knowledge of each exciting origin.

HOME/CRAFT BREWING • SATURDAY, AUGUST 30, 11AM

Brew your own craft beer! Bring your favorite home brewer or use a provided brew method. We’ll embrace the aromas, taste, ritual, & craft of home coffee brewing to help you get more enjoyment from your coffee. With Press Pots, Pour Overs, & more, you’ll learn how to control brewing variables that will dial in your coffee.

Join us to explore the way we smell, taste, and describe our favorite beverage. Coffee cupping is an industry-wide tasting practice that gives us a way to distinguish & select the world’s best coffees for you.

MILK STEAMING & LATTE ART • SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11, 11AM

Your local barista may make pouring a beautiful rosetta seem magically effortless, but what does it really take? Join us to learn the science & art behind steaming & pouring sweet, glossy, micro- foamed milk. We’ll demonstrate the difference between various milks & temperatures, study a bit of milk chemistry, then try our hand at steaming, pouring & latte art.

BREW METHODOLOGY • WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 6, 3PM

Become a brew master with this workshop that will teach you how different brewing methods can transform one coffee in different ways. This class will help you identify and understand three distinct methods. We’ll talk about the selected coffee we’ll be brewing and discuss the importance of smell, fast, texture, methodology and other distinctions that arise between brewing methods.

ESPRESSO TOUR • WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 13, 3PM

Do you know & love espresso? In this workshop we’ll be tasting three different express flavor profiles and we’ll learn to distinguish what’s different in each. We will focus on 3 – YergZ, Red Sunset and Piedmont Blend. this is not a technical preparation class, just an introduction to appreciating the different flavor and experiences espresso can have.

HOW ROAST DETERMINES FLAVOR • WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20, 3PM

Learn how important the roast level can be in your own home-brewed coffee. Different roast levels affect the flavor of coffee and can develop certain characteristics of the bean in many ways. You’ll learn the meaning of notable chemical reactions that roasting initiates and the effects of those reactions such as caffeine content and flavor elements.

COFFEE TASTING WORLD TOUR • WEDNESDAY,  AUGUST 27, 3PM

Take a tour of Carrboro Coffee’s wide variety of Direct Relationship coffee sources. In this workshop you’ll compare and identify difference between each coffee’s origin, type, process and more. Flavor, acidity, body, processing, cultivation and location will all be considered when you taste these four coffees. Become a connoisseur of the complex world of coffee.

GRINDING AND BREWING COFFEE • WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 3PM

How do you know if your brew method is at its best? In this workshop we’ll use one coffee and a few different brew methods to learn the advantages of each. You’ll develop an understanding of each method and what makes them unique. Learn proper grinding methods and measurement to get the same cup of coffee you love every time.

ROAST PROFILING • WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 3PM

Get inside the roasting process by learning what happens to the beans at every level. You’ve never known your coffee this well. The goal of this exercise is to experience the range of roast levels that occur during a standard roast profile and get a peek at what happens to the seed throughout the roasting process. We’ll profile smells and tastes of different roasting levels and determine what is best for each type of coffee.
